Public Housing Accessibility

Meeting the Challenge has developed proprietary checklists and reports to perform self-evaluation and transition plans for public housing authorities (PHA). These reports address the policies and procedures of PHAs, as well as the physical accessibility of the facility. Federally funded PHAs are required, under Section 504 of the Rehab Act of 1973, as amended, to ensure that their programs and facilities do not discriminate against persons with disabilities. MTC began developing these services in early 2006 and performed ten self-evaluations for PHAs in 2006 and 2007.

The physical accessibility observations became the basis for the Transition Plan, including recommended changes.
