ADA/FHA Architectural Support Services
Meeting the Challenge, Inc. staff have completed hundreds of individual site surveys and reviews dozens of architectural project plans using the ADA Accessibility Guidelines and the Fair Housing Act Accessibility Standards. The goal in conducting architectural plan reviews is to identify disconnects between the planned construction and the standards. Recommendations for alterations to bring the project into compliance are offered and integrated into the final plan. For existing buildings, a site survey reveals those barriers that should be consudered for removal to bring the structure into compliance with the ADA.
Among the many projects completed by MTC in this area, those listed below represent some of the most significant:
- Colorado & Sante Fe Land Company - The Colorado & Sante Fe Land Company owns and/or operates over 100 facilities on the front range of Colorado including shopping malls, office complexes, manufacturing facilities, and warehouses. MTC conducted site surveys for every property owned and operated by Colorado & Sante Fe. Each property survey was documented with a comprehensive report.
- Property Asset Management - Property Asset Mamangement (PAM) manages over 50 apartment complexes in the Denver, Colorado metropolitan area. While apartment complexes have limited requirements for accessibility under the ADA PAM ownership wanted to be sure that their facilities were as accessible as possible. MTC surveyed all PAM properties and presented complete reports for each propertry.
- Colorado Lottery - The Colorado Lottery has three administrative facilities located throughout the state. In addition, lottery tickets are sold through thousands of distribution sites located within other commercial facilities. The Colorado Lottery contracted MTC to conduct surveys of each administrative facility and train lottery personnel to use a survey checklist developed by MTC to survey each distribution site.
- Colorado Division of AAA - The Colorado division of the American Automobile Association (AAA) has 12 operating locations for its members in Colorado. Colorado AAA contracted MTC to evaluate its facilities for accessibility and suggest alterations that might improve that accessibility.
- School Districts - MTC completed facility surveys for every school and administrative facility in Colorado Springs School District 11, Academy School District 20, and Falcon School District 49. Over 100 individual building surveys were conducted. MTC also directly supported Colorado Springs School District 11 in the development of their Self Evaluation and Transition Plans for the ADA.
- Morning Thunder Lodge and Bachelor Gulch Condominiums - MTC conducted comprehensive plan reviews of the Morning Thunder Lodge and Bachelor Gulch condominium complexes to ensure all units were designed in compliance with the Fair Housing Act. Numerous modifications were made in the plans before construction was undertaken.
