Upcoming Webinar on Accessible Landscape Architecture
MTC's ADA project, the DBTAC: Rocky Mountain ADA Center, will present Accessible Landscape (Webinar) - a webinar for landscape architects. Accessible Landscape discusses the new 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design and how they apply to landscape architecture. The U.S. Department of Justice adopted the Access Board's 2004 ADA Accessibility Guidelines on September 15, 2010. By adopting the Access Board`s guidelines DOJ codified the 2010 ADA Standards for accessible design as the scoping and technical provisions used to provide accessibility where facilities are required to comply with title II or title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The 2004 ADAAG was created to harmonize all federal accessibility standards with the ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and IBC (International Building Code) building codes. There are some new elements, such as correctional and recreational facilities, that were not covered in the 1991 ADA Standards. The content of this presentation will be limited to five types of recreational facilities covered in Chapter 10 of the 2010 ADA Standards. These elements are most relevant to the scope of work typically addressed by landscape architects. A brief overview of the effective dates and safe harbor provisions as they apply (or not) to the 2010 ADA Standards will be covered. This webinar is being presented by Geoff Ames.
